Day 2 - Nature, Romans, and History

Today, we spent the day in Split relaxing, getting over the jet lag, and, most importantly, picking up our motorcycles from the rental place.

After a nice full breakfast by the cathedral, we set out on a long walk toward the top of Marjan Hill.  From there, we had a beautiful view of Split ... the old city and the new, Diocletian’s Palace, the yachts, the cruise ships, and the coastline ... a great walk through nature.

On the way back, we sat down at a cafĂ© on the Promenade to watch people go by.  We then spent the rest of the day wandering through the little streets, alleys, and hidden plazas inside and around the palace.

At 7 p.m., we picked up our motorcycles: two BMW R1250GSs and one R1250GS Adventure. All three were practically new and had everything we needed. We rode them back to the palace, parked just outside the main entrance, and began packing and adjusting everything exactly the way we like it.

We had a great dinner with Jason and Heather, Roman and Marta, and Pam and me on the patio of a recommended Italian pizza place inside the palace.

We are now all set. Tomorrow, we head up into the Carpatian Mountains just behind Split and then on to Plitvice National Park.
